Game Day Weekend Events:
Saturday, January 28th
  • 3:00pm-5:30pm: Opening ball at Miss Nyree Rain's ballroom, Caledon on Sea
Dancing and ice skating on an ice-rink suspended over lava - amazingly kept frozen by spark technology! Custom ice skates will be provided, compliments of Miss Rain. Music provided by Otenth Paderborn.

5:30pm-6:30pm: Polar Bear Riding Competition, Inverbrackie

Ride the polar bear! Don't fall off! The one who rides longest gets a prize. Rules and information available from the Game Day poster in-world.

Sunday, January 29th
The board will open at 9:45am, so come early. We will start as close to the hour as possible. This is a single elimination, individual tournament. The entry fee is L$50: to be shared between the four top players, the hosting sim and the organizers.
Get a plane from the windsock, take flight, and try to shoot down the other participants! If you are hit, just head back to the hangar and try again!
Using Miss Ordinal Malaprop's snowball fight system, here is your chance to truly enjoy winter! Please read the notecard (available in-world from the Game Day poster) for the full rules.
There will only be four teams - 5 players maximum per team. Please register in advance, and you will be given an actual playing time. You will have 10 minutes to kill as many zombies as you can. The team with the most kills will win. Complete rules are available from the Game Day poster in-world.
Join us and dance to the tunes of Mrs. Magdalena Haiku (tentative) to close this third (and second winter) Game Day. The Staff of the Consulate have been happy to provide you with much fun, and hope to see you this summer!

LOOT! A Celebration of Stealing Stuff! (and Happy Anniversary, Armada!)

1/15/12  at 8:36 AM
Loot!

An aging parrot careens onto the deck of your ship, bashing his beak soundly against your rum cup. He seems to snort in annoyance as he drops a scrolled message next to your drink, shakes the ruffles out of his feathers and takes to the skies again, vanishing in the clouds. You pick up the scroll and read:

Right! It's time to celebrate another successful year for Armada and the Scoundrels. Now success can be measured in many ways. Around here, it's by the quality and quantity of our stolen treasures. There is no better way to scrutinize ones collected “Loot” than to steer towards warm water and break out what amounts to a stolen makeshift beach and have a party.

So it's a party we're having to honor our skill, our cunning, our thievery and our survival. This past year we have stolen some spectacular treasures and oddities. Some of them deserve high praise, some a bit of shame. To sort this out, a contest will be held to bestow bragging rights to the pirate with the best stolen prize. Also, as is our custom, there will be a daring battle game to test your wits and spill some blood for sport. Right.

Er ...um, some of you might recognize some of your possessions as you glance around. Never you mind, we’ll take good care of them and thanks for your contribution.

Sincerely,
Captain Static

How to find us! Set course for Scar's Edge - If the sim is full, head for the overflow area at Armada Breakaway.

Æther Salon: Heraldry!

1/14/12  at 7:51 AM
Aether Salon: Heraldry!

Please note this event in your personal calendar - the Salons are indeed a highlight of each month in the Steamlands! (and there's always food!) The newly rebuilt Salon precariously straddles the Babbage Palisade & Academy of Industry sims, for cunning reasons of crowd balancing.

The Æther Salon is brought to you by Baron Klaus Wulfenbach and his assistants who take no responsibility for your lack of enlightenment should you choose not to attend. Everyone hopes fervently that you shall be amongst us tomorrow!

Chinese New Year's in Steelhead 2012

1/9/12  at 8:23 AM

Lantern Festival in Steelhead Shanghai Bay:
The lantern festival is held on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. Some of the lanterns may be works of art, painted with birds, animals, flowers, zodiac signs, and scenes from legend and history. People hang glowing lanterns in temples, and carry lanterns to an evening parade under the light of the full moon.

Squirrel Appreciation Day in Steelhead Boomtown:
Squirrel Appreciation Day is an opportunity to enjoy and appreciate your tree climbing, nut gathering neighborhood squirrels. It's held in mid-winter when food sources are scarce for squirrels and other wildlife. Sure, squirrels spent all fall gathering and "squirreling " away food. But, their supplies may not be enough. And, the variety of food is limited. So, give them an extra special treat today to supplement their winter diets.

Year of the Dragon in Steelhead Shanghai:
History of Chinese New Years: Legend has it that in ancient times, Buddha asked all the animals to meet him on Chinese New Year. Twelve came, and Buddha named a year after each one. He announced that the people born in each animal's year would have some of that animal's personality. Those born in dragon years are innovative, brave, and passionate.
