Team Fringe Renaissance Faire 2011

Relay for Life in Second life, altough blooming with the same hope as the in-flesh one, has this unique ability to make us travel in time. Today, I have gone to the Renaissance Era.

Organized by Team Fringe, the Renaissance Faire is on from April 1st to April 3rd, and offers the usual clothing and accessories, but also houses and other buildings, plants, and so many items that could be found in the day-to-day activities, ot the imaginary worlds of the time. Some activities are also offered; for example, I was lucky enough to be there for  Lyn Calberg’s (and his mellow guitar) live show.

I would have one little complaint about the Faire: as I couldn’t readily find information for the activities. But behold! Your fearless (right!) reporter was lucky enough to run into Master Artifex (Ephemeral Flan) who kindly provided the following schedule:

Running throughout-Jail & Bail, story times at various intervals, other RP classes

  • 4pm SLT: Caoilte Skytower
  • 5pm SLT: Bart & Whirl
  • Opening Ceremonies
  • Memorial Service for those we have lost
April 2nd (Saturday)
  • 8am SLT:  Lyn Carlberg
  • (TBA): Combat class (Elaine Khandr)
  • Noon: Anatasia Adder (Tentative)
  • 1pm SLT: Tournament of Hope
    • 1pm: Registration
    • 1:30pm: Joust
    • 2:30pm: Melee Tournament
    • 3:30pm: Archery Competition
  • 5pm SLT: Brewfest
April 3rd (Sunday)
  • (TBA): Church Service (Service of hope)
  • 11am SLT: MarkSery Melodie
  • 2pm - 4pm SLT: DJ Shay Sunnyside
  • 4pm SLT: Caoilte Skytower
More important yet is the creativity of both the organization and the creators. I really appreciated the four seasons parks (chess in Spring, story-telling in Summer, live show in Autumn, fortune telling in Winter). The arena, where the tournament will be held, has a one-way see through wall, so the competitors won’t get distracted by the crowd. And there are so many role-playing accessories!

So, if you like to delve into the historical (or not-so-historical) feeling of the end of Medieval times, up to the Elizabethan Era, (and more: I have seen classical/Roman items and clothing, up to Regency-inspired gowns!) be sure to stop by and look around!
